Parenting Classes? The Pros and Cons

If this is your first baby, there are so many things you’ll need to know. So where do you go to find out about how to best care for your new baby?
There are plenty of parenting classes available today and you may be wondering if these are for you. What are the advantages and disadvantages of taking these classes? We’ll examine some good reasons below that you may or may not want to participate in these classes.
Now you may have had previous experience such as babysitting or looking after your friends’ kids. Trust me when I tell you this doesn’t even give you a vague idea of what parenting involves. Parenting is a huge responsibility and while it is very rewarding, you really need some knowledge up front to get you through from day to day. Parenting classes can supply this for you.
What will you learn? You’ll learn the know how on getting your baby to sleep, how to properly change a diaper and the right way to feed your baby. You’ll receive hands on learning by practicing on dolls rather than just trying to learn from a book.
Are the classes affordable? Most parenting classes have a variety of prices and formats so there’s every chance you’ll find one that you can afford. In some cities you’ll be able to find free classes put on by non profit organizations.
Another bonus you may not have considered is the ability to meet other first time mums who are in the same situation as you. These types of classes are very popular so will meet all different types of people, some of whom may become your friends. If you’re a mom without family support, this could be very important for you.
There are disadvantage to everything and the problem with dealing with a class schedule is of course time. A lot of expectant moms work all day until just before the birth. Transport to and from classes may also be a problem for some moms. You need to consider these before rushing to join a class.
However if you are able, I hope you will try these classes for yourself. You will quickly see the many ways that parenting classes will benefit you as a first time mom. You’ll get help and information and meet new friends into the bargain. Above all you’ll learn the basics of motherhood and will be able to feel confident about being a new mom!
