The World’s Smallest Baby Hands And Feet
31st December 2011 by Babies No CommentsI knew the impending decision to have youngsters would change my life. The very first time it really started to impact me was, believe it or not, choosing furniture for our first baby’s nursery. The whole house was decked out with beautiful furniture, clean modern lines and edgy designs, where did a decorative play house fit into that? I was driven to give my baby a normal youth, but could I do it without giving up the elegance my house?
Naturally I knew that metal sculptures likely would not be the best nursery accessory, especially by the time this tiny one was up and running. So I turned to some more standard ways of decoration. I found a brilliant carpenter who was a year off from retirement and made his final days a great challenge! From a toy box with intricate woodcarving to lovable carvings lining the cot, I fit attractive detail in where ever I could.
During my first trip to the local baby store, I was let down. I had been expecting a wide range, more than I could see in a day. Sadly I was in a tiny town and we were quite fortunate to have only two baby stores. So I started searching the Internet and before long I found precisely what I was after. From stunning older second hand pieces that just needed a coat of French polish to be functional to stylish toys in bronzes, it was all out there online.
Eight months in I had bought pretty much everything, from cloth nappies (and on a last thought disposable nappies) to all of the standard baby accessories. The baby shower endowed me with a huge variety of meticulous and lovingly chosen gifts, from boutique crayons and gift vouchers for bassinets to disposable nappies. But the best gift of all was a baby sculpture kit from my sister in law, a present I could not wait to use.
After a hassle free birth, I brought my dear child home for the first time. Just before her first bath at home, my husband and I made some of the best baby sculptures I have ever seen. Her tiny hands and feet all fit on the same bit of clay! Then we had to break out a canvas and our just acquired body paints for another initiation rite, bum prints!
