Preparing For A New Family Addition

28th May 2010 by Babies No Comments

Will there be a new family member soon? You may need to do some preparations. This will be fun and challenging for brothers and sisters also. What can you do to welcome the new baby and keep everyone happy? There may be a balancing act to perform. With a little forethought, it may turn out fine.

If you have very young family members, it can be a challenging time. They may not comprehend what is happening. Older children are not as difficult. They can help you to announce the good news. They can help explain things to their siblings, also.

Children are smarter than many people realize. They will notice new baby cribs and baby items. They will feel resentment if they cannot touch them. They may feel left out or abandoned. Involve all the children as soon as you can. However, they cannot be allowed to break or damage things. Perhaps the nursery can wait a while. It may give them a little more time to mature. You will have more chances to explain the new baby to them, also.

When you begin to decorate the nursery, let everyone help. Find a duty for each child. Someone can hand you things. Someone else can wipe the walls down. Do not forget to ask their opinions on things too. They will feel like they are a part of the process. A child may need to move and sleep in a loft bed. Let them know that is a better situation for them.

If you are going to bottle feed the new baby, let other siblings help. You can prepare the bottle and leave it some distance away. It can be the child’s job to bring it to you. Be sure that you praise the child for being such a help. Often, it is easier to do things for yourself. However, you have to think of little egos. They can be easily bruised, if left out of the family.

Sit down with your child and spend quality time. Look at catalogs with them and dream. It doesn’t matter what you look at. It can be new cars or Husqvarna chainsaws. What matters, is the time you spend together. Let the child talk and tell you his or her dreams.

Conclusion

You may have a new baby in the family soon. Remember that little eyes and egos will watch your every move. Include them in all that you do. It will make a difference.

The Joy’s Of Having A New Baby

12th April 2010 by Babies No Comments

Your first baby is bringing you so much joy and so much stress. Your first days are going to be difficult for you as your daily routine is going to change. Your baby will take up all of your time, day and night. You will need to feed your baby every three hours and this will keep you up for some time. Your baby will also cry and you will probably don’t always understand the reason. Babies might cry for many different reasons and parents don’t always understand what they should do. If this is your first baby, chances are that you will feel stressed and uncomfortable as you lack experience. There are many sources for you to get the information you need on how to make your baby relax and feel better and eventually stop crying.

It is generally only during the first 5 or 6 months of a baby’s life that its sleeping patterns are irregular and night-feeding will be necessary. If babies have a regular feeding schedule that is followed throughout the day, they will undoubtedly sleep better at night. When babies come into the world, they are fully unaware of time cycles or the differences between day and night. After a certain amount of time, however, it is possible to get your baby on a schedule. Newborns can have trouble staying awake more than two or three hours in one setting and babies will give tell-tale signals that will let you know if they are feeling tired. Regular yawning or rubbing of the eyes will let you know that your baby wants to sleep.

Babies respond to the presence of their mother. So, try to make sure that the baby realizes you are there. Talking or singing to the baby will certainly have a calm and soothing effect. Try it out. You can also put some soft music to the radio or read a story so that the baby can hear your voice. Make sure that the baby is clean and dry. Feeling wet can be very irritating and might make the baby nervous and upset. You should always keep that in mind. You should also make every effort to keep a schedule in feeding hours. Having a normal schedule will help the baby adjust to the new life and will also help you sleep at nights.

Swaddling babies in comfortable blankets is another effective method that could help your baby sleep well. Swaddling seems to remind babies of the past comfort of their mother’s womb, and consists of wrapping the baby with a blanket so that only the top of the shoulders and head remain visible. Having a regular routine in putting your baby to sleep can also work well, such as regular bathing before bed time or singing lullabies. Babies also respond well to regular physical affection. The next time your baby wakes up at night, try one of these methods.
