Turn The Guest Room Into A Nursery
Posted by Babies - 27/05/10 at 12:05 amThe doctor has just confirmed the home pregnancy test. In seven months there is going to be a new baby. This is going to make some changes necessary at your home. The first step is finding a room that can be converted into a nursery. For many couples, the most logical choice is the guest room.
Often the guest room is easiest to convert to a nursery. It is already set up as a bedroom, so you will have to make few if any structural changes. Many times the room will only require a change of furniture and some furniture may be able to be reused. Anything that is not needed for the baby should go into storage, be given away or sold in order to give plenty of room for the new baby.
After you empty the room take time to examine what is left. Check out the carpets and the walls. See if you are going to need to replace floor coverings or repaint the room. Make these decisions while the room is empty rather than choosing to wait until room is already filled or the baby is here.
Consider this room that is going to become your nursery. What are you going to need to add?
Of course you will want to provide a baby bed. If you are purchasing a new bed, consider one that will eventually convert to a toddler bed. Then as the new baby grows, he or she can use the same mattress and bed for several years. If you are using a used bed, make sure that it meets all the current safety requirements and is sturdy.
A Philips baby monitor will help you to hear and see into the nursery from the convenience of your own room. You will be able to hear the baby before he or she becomes too worked up and crying loudly. This will make for less stress for both the baby and the parents.
Babies tend to need lots of clothes and diapers. The dresser that was in the guest room may work, but home storage cabinets are also a great option. Diapers tend to fit better in the cabinets than in a dresser. As the child grows, the cabinets can be used for toys and other items that the child will need to store.
Since you will no longer have a guest room, you may want to make provisions for overnight guests by purchasing a sleeper sofa or an air bed. Having a new baby almost guarantees that out of town grandparents will want to visit for a sleepover.
